- apractice
- aenvironment
- aspace
- anexperiment
idea:
- what is creative work?
- can it be valued?
- how?
practice:
- to make work in multi-media forms
environment:
- a building
space:
- to work/invent/create
experiment:
- the project will not put a price
on any work it undertakes
to create is:
- to begin to start again from nothing
W O R K
the particular focus of the project is that all work at the project is offered on a donations basis - from performance work, to large scale installations, no price is put on any work made at the project
sponsorship from a number of individuals has enabled us to meet the running costs of the project and improve the facilities
D O N A T I O N S
a donation is a gift
a donor is one who gives
the PHOENIX project relies entirely on gifts of money
we have no other source of income
please give generously according to your means
the project has been established to enable people to construct and deconstruct work for presentation to the community
this work is not for sale
this work is removed from view at the end of the process and documentation is kept at the project to form an archive anyone using the building is expected to take responsibility for maintenance of the space
if you do not understand ask
the project aims to provide the wider community with work which moves, challenges, disturbs or delights
if you do not understand ask
- to build up:
- to put together the parts:
- to make: to compose
- to take down:
- to take apart the parts:
- to unmake: to decompose
C R I T E R I A
our creative endeavours have their roots in the patterns of nature
the continuous cycle of change
the PHOENIX project is committed to making work which reflects this reality
work which provides the participants with an experience, in which the traces of what remains, the documentation, offers a memento
this memento cannot be like the original experience and half the fun of making these souvenirs is the discovery that the deconstruction of one piece of work leads to the construction of another
any definition of the words 'contemporary' or 'modern' art are open to question
the PHOENIX project has stated that it intends to provide the wider community with work which 'moves, challenges, disturb or delights' but what does that mean?
ultimately it means that the core group at the project will decide what work is appropriate for the space, and are willing to discuss the reasons for acceptance and rejection of work which is offered
the decisions that are made will be based on our perception of what will best serve the evololution of the project
