About the Phoenix Project

Online alternative education provider

We are an online alternative education provider. We provide bespoke programmes of study that students can access from home or within a school setting at an affordable price.

Students complete their learning at their own pace using learning booklets and receiving written feedback from qualified, specialist subject teachers to develop their understanding.

How we work

Students are part of a daily live tutor group that helps develop a sense of community and covers important topics such as internet safety, mental health and wellbeing and careers advice and guidance.

Every child has a personal mentor, who will meet once a week for an online 1-1 mentoring session. In some circumstances these may be home visits.

We can work with work experience providers to KS4 students to include a local work experience placement as part of a student’s individual programme of study.

Jackie Nicholls

"I’m Jackie Nicholls, the Founder and headteacher of The Phoenix Project. I am an experienced senior leader in education and over recent years I have been struck by the limited choices families have when it comes to alternative education options."

"I could see how desperate it can feel when mainstream education isn’t working for a child but families have no other options, so I created The Phoenix Project. We exist to provide an inclusive and compassionate service that supports students to reach their ambitions, whatever they may be."

Learning From Home

Are you a parent looking for our support?

If you are a family considering electively home educating your child, we can work with you and your current school to find a more effective, affordable solution.

If you would like information around elective home education, what it means for you and your child, and what alternatives are available, contact us.

  • My child is enrolled with a mainstream school but I would like them to access The Phoenix Project, what can I do?
You can approach your school directly and ask them to consider enrolling your child in one of our programmes, or you can contact us and we can approach your child’s school on your behalf. Remember that schools buy into alternative provision programmes at their own discretion and often have school and trust policies detailing their use of alternative provisions. You may want to check their website and read any alternative provision policy they may have.
  • What KS4 qualifications do you offer?
We provide learning resources that cover GCSE AQA English Language, AQA maths and AQA trilogy Combined science.
  • If I electively home educate, how do I pay for my child’s programme?
Once you have selected the programme you want your child to follow, we will invoice you half termly in advance of each half term. Once payment is received, students will be provided with login details to access their google classrooms.
  • How long does it take for my child to be enrolled and begin online learning?
Once you have confirmed which programme you would like to follow, we can complete onboarding within 48 hours.
  • How long can my child study with the Phoenix Project?
The minimum enrolment is 1 half term (6 weeks) and the longest is a full key stage. At the end of KS3 learning, a student can enrol on the KS4 programme. Families are invoiced per half term.
  • I want my child to finish their programme of study with The Phoenix Project, what do I need to do?
If you electively home educate, you will be invoiced in advance for the coming half term. You can end your placement by emailing us, we will end your placement. If your school is paying for you to access our provision, you should contact your school to discuss ending your placement and we will work with your school to end your placement.
  • How do I enrol my child?
Complete the registration form and you will be sent the appropriate onboarding documents, as soon as these are completed students can begin to access online learning.
  • I want my child to complete part time study, what can I do?
We offer full time and part time programmes. If you electively home educate you can choose any subject or provision that suits you. We will make a bespoke programme and you can pay for this in half termly slots. You can make changes to your programme each half term if you wish. If your child is accessing our provision through their mainstream school, you will need to discuss your preferences with your school directly and we will liaise with them to make sure your child follows the correct programme.
